Survey on Career Transitions of STEM Graduates launched

Why do researchers leave academia? We want to understand this better – and for this we need your support. With this survey, we are collecting the opinions and experiences of persons who left academia in Switzerland after completing their doctorate or postdoc phase in STEM fields in the last 15 years.

A career in academia can be a rewarding path of discovery, creativity and impact. But it can also be long, uncertain and highly competitive, and not everyone chooses to stay.

The UPSTEM Project, from the Swiss Young Academy, seeks to advance our understanding of why. We are launching a survey to hear directly from researchers who left academia after completing a PhD or postdoctoral position in Switzerland in STEM fields within the last 15 years. If this is you, or someone in your network, we want to hear from you.

Fill in the survey here

Your responses will be collected and stored anonymously and used solely for research purposes. The survey will remain open until 30 May 2025.

Your voice is essential to help us better understand the challenges, motivations and decisions that shape academic careers in Switzerland. Thank you!
