New Sounding Board members appointed

The Swiss Young Academy (SYA) has established a sounding board as a new advisory body to specifically strengthen the evaluation and implementation of its members' joint projects. The election of the first four Sounding Board members by the Board of Directors of the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences represents another important step in the further development of the Young Academy, five years after its foundation.

As part of its strategic development, the Swiss Young Academy has established a new Sounding Board. The establishment of this body marks an important step in the continuous advancement of the Swiss Young Academy, five years after its foundation.

The Board of Directors of the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences has officially elected the first four members of this new advisory body:

  • Prof. Hugues Abriel, Professor of Molecular Medicine, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation; University of Bern

  • Dr. Mirko Bischofberger, Owner and employee at Science Studios GmbH, lecturer at EPFL

  • Prof. Susan Thieme, Professor of Geography and Critical Sustainability Studies, Co-Director of the Institute of Geography, Co-Director of the mLAB; University of Bern

  • Dr. Marc Zbinden, Head of Careers Division; Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF)

The Sounding Board is designed as a dynamic and strategic support structure. It will advise the Executive Board in evaluating project proposals submitted by members and support members in the development and implementation of joint, interdisciplinary projects.

In the long term, the Sounding Board will comprise 6 to 12 members. These will include experienced figures from academia and representatives of the broader scientific community. This diversity of perspectives strengthens the work of the Swiss Young Academy and continues to foster innovation and interdisciplinary dialogue among early- and mid-career researchers.
